Bowhunters across the world are realizing the thrill of hunting these vocal birds with archery equipment. BSC offers 5 sub species of turkeys in the lower 48. You can hunt the Osceola in Florida late March through April, The Eastern bird is most wide spread found in more than half of the lower 48 states. The Merriam is generally hunted in NE, WY, CO ND, SD and other surrounding states. This bird has a pronounced white band on the tip of the tail feathers. The Rio bird is found in TX, OK and KS. Most populated in central to southern TX with season opener in March. The Gould’s is found in parts of southern AZ and NM. Population is growing in the lower 48’s but originated Mexico. Large populations remain in Mexico. Most common hunt strategy is from ground blinds with decoys. Shot distance normally is 5-20yds. Hunts are normally 3 days and some states you can take 2 birds. Exciting spring hunt and good hunt for youth hunters to experience.
