Bowhunting Sitka Blacktail Deer in Alaska

All deer taken in Alaska, and Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia are considered Sitka Blacktail. The "Sitka" deer is a great bowhunting adventure at an affordable price in Alaska. BSC arranges bowhunts on Kodiak, as well as Afognak Island for these deer. With generous bag limits, and reasonable tag costs, bowhunters can arrange an Alaskan experience quite reasonably. Bowhunts can be conducted as early as August, with some great bowhunting available up high while the bears are down on the salmon streams for the most part, or you can plan your island adventure late October, through November & December when the deer are more likely to be down on the beaches.

Description of Deer

There are five different species of deer as recognized by Pope and Young in North America. The Whitetail Deer is the most heavily hunted animal in North America. There is also the smaller sub-species called the Coues Deer, pronounced "cows". There are also the Mule Deer, Sitka Blacktail Deer, and the Columbia Blacktail Deer. P&Y minimums for the 5 species start with Coues Deer at 65, Sitka Blacktail at 75, Columbia Blacktail at 90, Whitetail at 125, and the Mule Deer at 145.
