Bowhunting Red Deer (Stag)
Originally from Europe, these majestic deer were eventually transplanted into New Zealand, Australia, South America. Similar to our North American Elk, the Red Deer have unique “crown” on top of their main beams. Very vocal during the rut, which is in March/April in Southern Hemisphere and September/October in the Northern Hemisphere.
Although the Red Deer in Australia are not the trophy quality as those found in New Zealand, the trophy fees are a bit less and the bowhunting areas are flatter than New Zealand.
